CHAPTER V
The Cuban Apostle

Marti was best known for essays that set out his vision of a secular republic and warned of the threat to Cuba from sporadic US imperialism.
Marti´s poetry is the most appreciated today. He is one of the iniciators of modernism in Latin American poetry.
Marti´s Guajira Guantanamera song , from his “Simple Verses”; 1891 :
Poem
“ I´m a sincere man
From the land of the palm tree,
And before I die
I wish tosing these heartfelt verses.
With the poor of the land
I want to share a fate,
And the mountain stream pleases me
More than the sea”.

Obispo Street
Then we continued walking by “Calle Obispo”. A street with many shops for tourists, expensive shops, innaccessible shops for cuban people.
Very expensive for chilean people. Very nice street, but full of holes and square tiles broken. Easy to fall down.
I was very pleased because Martha accepted me a cup of coffe.
He used not to accept anything to eat when we went together for a walk. The reason, is she and other cuban people couln´t afford the prices I payed, as a tourist.
